QUOTE(Chris Boulton @ Dec 15 2004, 09:07 AM) Just because something is standards compliant doesn't mean it will work fine in any browser. Also for XHTML strict you can't use the target attribute on links, which is what I assume mess.be will do with external sites - you would have to use some sort of javascript to do this. I for one am looking forward the new site, and thank god that it is going to be orange! The orange sets this place out from the others. It's an orange design that works and looks awesome. I think it would be awesome if you guys did actually categorise news. Maybe not the old stuff, but new stuff. It would make it alot easier just to view the news of say, emotion and DP database updates without viewing other news. With "works on any browser" I meant it works with Mozilla and IE based browsers, because it will use valid CSS (not IE CSS only sh*t) it will look the same on every browser, and for links in XTHML 1.1 CODE <p><a href="http://www.mess.be" onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;">mess.be</a></p> ![]() |

Whats gonna happen to the DP section?..
The whole thing needs its own fresh code, optimized to cache dir. etc. should save time and server load.. |

I think the news comments don't exist because of the way in which they can be abused. It would also mean a lot of SQL queries that we do not want. It won't be fixed to 800x600 as already explained, that is due to the iframe. Kilp? What is wrong with RSS? ![]() |

News system.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example On September 27th, new and existing free Hotmail customers who have not set-up their accounts to access Hotmail from Outlook or Outlook Express will no longer have access to this feature. Please note there is no change for subscription customers, both those with Primary or Secondary accounts. 69 comments Post A Reply ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The post a reply would link you straight to a reply only forum inside the forums. I just think it's a good idea. It would attract people to the forum who like to discuss news and events. |

it won't be "fixed" to 800x600 which i assume means that on higher resolutions the screen will automatically stretch to fill that gap on the right

Ok, well hopefully these changes can be implemented:
1. Stretchy content area. I dont know if this would work with our design, but it would satisfy people who complain about the bar at the right. 2. No damn iframe. Nuff said. 3. Categorised news? Yeah, we'll consider it. Althought mess.be is mainly for messenger news, sometimes news is posted on other topics. 4. Downloads section. Yes, there will be a new system, that will not utilise SQL for delivering you the pages (part of our precompiling system) thus being one billion times faster. <dr.evil />. 5. Comments, These systems can be abused quite a lot, and as sean says use SQL heavily. Maybie after the system is made we can add this on, as our system is modular. |

1, 2, 3, and 4 sound like good ideas, but i'm not so sure about the 5th one. You may get abusive comments, or anything like that. Maybe you should simply have a 'Leave Feedback' button, which is linked to an e-mail address or something. But I epect a comments page is actually better than the Feedback Button, coz someone could send viruses and stuff...

Maybe instead of a comments system, we have a forum for news discussion and have a link on the news link to it's own, automatically created thread?
(if that made any sense) |

(if that made any sense) Yeah, i've also considered this. The precompiling system could add a newspost as a new thread ![]() ![]() |
