Hello.

This is my first release for Mess.be forum (I hope you guys will like).

I will be teaching a few tricks for MSN 7.5, probably the same method can be applied for every versions.

One thing : I cannot be held responsible for any harm on your PC (nothing wrong should happens anyways) so
apply these methods at your own risk.

If you got any questions or problems, please post them in this thread, do not add me on MSN, etc.

Enjoy the reading !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to use older versions of MSN Client

This is a frequently asked question, i'm surprised this is not in FAQ (or maybe I haven't looked correctly?) since
Live Messenger has tons of memory leaks and bugs, ads, etc. Yes it is beautiful but it sucks. Sorry for the language.

Myself and most 99.9% of MSN users prefer the older versions since they doesn't crash or take years to load and connect.

I will be teaching you how to change your MSN version so the server thinks you are using the lastest version. Yes, there is
patches out but they hardly work anymore because they patch your MSN to be a version which is out-dated, so there is no
changes.

First of all, you will need Ressource Hacker. You can download it here : http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
This is a tool to change the content of an executable, library or OCX file. It is mainly used to translate or change the images.

When you're done downloading it, let's go to the first step of the tutorial.

Step 1 : Loading msnmsgr.exe into the program

When you run Ressource Hacker, you should have something like this :

(I got a theme, so don't worry)

Go in : File > Open ...

and browse of msnmsgr.exe (the main executable of your MSN Messenger, usually located in C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger)

When the file is loaded, ResHacker should have loaded all the content of MSN. You should have something like this :

Step 2 : Changing the version information

Now, double-click "Version Info" and double-click again "1" and then click "1033".

You should see something like this :

The only part that is most interesting is :

VALUE "FileVersion", "7.5.0311"
VALUE "ProductVersion", "7.5.0311"

So you might already know what to do, uh ? Well yes. It's that simple, just change the both values in the quotes to the
lastest version of Live Messenger. When I made this tutorial, it was 8.5.1302.

So basically, it should be like this :

VALUE "FileVersion", "8.5.1302"
VALUE "ProductVersion", "8.5.1302"

When both version are changed, just press 'Compile Script' above the textbox.

Finally, go in File > Save and there you go!

Run MSN, and try to connect. God ! It works msn_happy.gif

Enjoy !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remove the 'says'

This is quite simple. If you have just read the first tutorial, this is the same damn thing but somewhere else.
All we gotta do is change the content of a file into MSN Messenger folder and then compile the script, save it.

Ready ? Here we go !

Step 1 : Loading MSN language libary

Open ResHacker. (If you don't have it : http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/)

You should have something like this :

Go in File > Open ...

and open msgslang.dll in your MSN Messenger folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger)

You should have something like this :

This time, go in View > Find text and type "says" (without the quotes) in the search box, like this :

(don't worry my OS is just another language than english)

Press 'search' and wait until it finds the text into the file. (It SHOULD find it, unless your MSN Messenger is another language!)

Step 2 : removing 'says'

Woot? our string has been found ! (no **** pp.gif).

Well, you know the thing... just change :

"%1 says:"

to

"%1 :"

Should give you this :

Then, once this was changed, press 'Compile script' above the textbox and then go
save it ! (File > Save).

Here you go! Enjoy...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it, people ! I will be adding more stuff, like 'how going over the nudge protection' and things like that
later. If you guys have request, don't be shy ! It will be a pleasure to answer you all and provide you some good
info !

** Please mods, pin this ! **

Regards,

-xXx-

PS : mess.be is the best for msn support ! keep the good work!

Ok, you can try to download the lastest 7.5 version from www.oldversion.com.

If it still doesn't work, then there is probably something wrong with either your computer or your MSN account.

Try google'ing your problem, maybe some forum might had the same problem fixed ! msn_happy.gif

I never had a Macintosh nor tried MSN for macintosh, but if you can't see it, then it is probably imposible.

In windows, you can set the "Sign-in status" in the main-page where you press 'connect'.

Try getting the lastest version available, and try looking for MSN Plus! add-on for MSN Messenger/Live Messenger.
Not sure if MSN Plus! supports Mac, but you can still google it.

Hope this will help.

You can use MSN Plus! and install the plugin 'What i'm listening to' and then you just select Winamp instead of WMP (in the options of the plugin) and it should work fine.

Otherwise, I don't know why.
