I trust him, all it really is is usage stats so he can develop features... and who knows we might get some rather odd results msn_happy.gif

Hehe yeahr.!

*Imagines that there will be 99% not using plus for anything else than changing color in their nick* msn_tongue.gif

BTW you probably notice the only two real posters at the msgplus forums are myself and cookie revised.
Hey, I'm a serious poster too! OK, I have less than 1000 posts on MsgPlus forum, but I'm still a serious poster!
</waywayofftopic>
Sorry about that above... just wanted to say something...

Anyway, I also have no problems with Patchou gathering usage statistics. I also allow MS to gather info for their CIP.
I've been using Plus since 1.42b, and never had a problem caused by it. I have also used Messenger from at least 4.x, and ditto.
Also, being a CompSci student, I can say with certainty that OUTbound data represents zero risk. If you don't believe me, I can ask around in department.

I don't have a problem with him getting my Plus! usage info, but the thing I DO have a problem with is not knowing about it. If at the installation it said;-
"Do you want to allow Patchou to collect a small amount (less than 1kb a week) of Annontmous MSN Plus! usage info to help him upgrade MP3?"

I'm sure most people wouldn't mind it if they actually knew about it.

Just my 2 cents.

i dont mind Patch Getting these Stats from My system at all if it means he can Improve Plus, but i also agree with the fact patchou should alert people about this during installation

There is an option in the Preference panel for Messenger Plus! in the general options>Local Settings> and at the bottom there is a toggle box that says "Allow Plus! to send anonymous, numerical statistics periodically ...Statistics do NOT include such data as your log files or your contact list"

I think that's fair enough, dont you think?

Messenger Plus! it NOT spyware. All it is, is a optional sponsor program. All it does is add a toolbar to your IE, and makes lots of favorities....It's completly optional to install, if you install it and don't read the FINE print about installing it, then it's YOUR fault...So please, don't say it's spyware, because it's not msn_happy.gif.

plus it is quite clear..
"do you wish to install the sponser"
"i agree" "i disagree"

although it is a bit decieveing by not telling you what it installs clearly (unless u read the fine print)

but it is clear...and if u 'accept' then ur agreeing to terms

I don't know of any single spyware program which so clearly states it that it contains advertisements (in fact, the defenition of spyware is a program which does not tell you anything of what it does).... Like said before, Plus! is NOT spyware. In fact Plus! isn't even adware! What is true is that Plus! comes with a seperate optional adware sponsor program. (see sshot)

In fact it even states it more clearly then MSN Messenger itself, that it will install a toolbar!

It clearly states it even before you come to the sponsor install screen. (see sshot)

Excuse us? Were very mature men, me and CookieRevised. All were doing is telling you what Messenger Plus! does. Were trying to keep, people like you, from telling people that it is spyware, when it is not...msn_grin.gif
