Well, at this moment I've got 5 computers:

1. My desktop, as mentioned above, the fastest of them all
2. My macbook, running vista most of the time, its my work pc but I drag it home anyway (have to be standby for emergency maintenance)
3. My mac mini, its just for fun and nothing more
4. My old laptop, running vista biz, but Im selling this one
5. My very old laptop, cant sell it (broken keyboard) but still works fine, still looking for a spare keyboard pp.gif

So 4 out of 5 are windows pc's and 2 out of 5 mac pp.gif

PC: P4 3.0GHz, 512ram and a geforce fx 5200
laptop: pentium m 730 1.6GHz, 512ram, geforce go 6600/64MB <- playing pretty much any sort of game in this laptop results in it turning itself off

Fiddled with things, upgraded my server hardware, etc. New specs:

Desktop:
  • Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi-AP Edition mobo
  • Intel Core2Duo E6600 noreply.gif 2x2.4GHz w/ Zalman CNPS 9500 cooler
  • 3GB (3x1GB) PC2-4200 (533MHz) Kingston Value RAM
  • ATI Sapphire Radeon X1800 512MB graphics card
  • 400GB Seagate Barracuda SATAII HDD; 7200rpm 16MB cache
  • Random cheapy SATA DVD-RW drive
  • Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic 5.1 sound card
  • Logitech Z-5400 5.1 speakers
  • Microsoft "Ultimate Keyboard" (Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000)
  • Logitech MX1000 Bluetooth mouse (because the mouse that comes with the WED8000 above is awful in so many ways)
  • 22" 1680x1050 (16:10) Video7 LCD
  • 19" 1280x1024 (5:4) Samsung SyncMaster 913N LCD
  • Windows Vista 32-bit (I finally grew tired of 64-bit's lack of driver and software compatibility)

Server:
  • Asus P5B (non-deluxe, non-WiFi) mobo
  • Intel Core2Quad Q6600 noreply.gif 4x2.4GHz w/ Zalman CNPS 9500 cooler. Claims to run at around 17°C, but since that's below room temperature I think it's an overly dodgy sensor
  • 5GB (3x1GB+1x2GB) PC2-4200 (533MHz) Kingston Value RAM
  • Nvidia 6-series graphics card that's not worth talking about
  • 120GB Seagate Barracuda PATA HDD; 7200rpm 8MB cache
  • 2x500GB Western Digital SATAII HDDs; 7200rpm 16MB cache
  • 4x200GB Seagate Barracuda PATA HDDs; 7200rpm, either 8 or 16MB cache
  • (Total of 1920GB msn_happy.gif)
  • Terratec Aureon Fun 5.1 sound card (optical input and output)
  • Random PATA DVD-RW drive
  • Notionally headless box, but plugged into a KVM switch anyway
  • Ubuntu Linux (desktop) 8.04 alpha with custom kernel to support up to 64GB RAM and built specifically for the Core2 CPU amongst other things. Set up to essentially replace the Windows Home Server install that was running on it previously, so it handles all my backups, media storage, etc.

(Laptop is still a 3-year-old Dell Inspiron 510m w/ 1.4GHz Pentium M CPU, 1GB RAM and WinXP Home, but I've upgraded the HDD from 40GB to 120GB. If I can save up ~£1000 over Summer I may buy a new one along with one of their colour laser printers...)

Got another server - 1U Dell PowerEdge with fairly crappy stats (1GHz Xeon, 2GB RAM, 60GB x4 mirrored SCSI disks), but all i'm using it for at the moment is my project work. Hardware RAID = <3.

New monitor is awsome, running my Xbox 360 on it at full HD = awsome.

Also got a new car, not really related to this thread though pp.gif.

I got me a laptop a few weeks. Nothing special really Windows Vista, 2GB RAM 120GB harddrive and a 1.46 dual core processor but I still love my new toy. Upgraded the RAM in my desktop just before Christmas. Now has 736MB rather than the rubbishy 224MB. Yes still pretty low but I don't ask a lot from it.

Same reason that I "need" 1920GB in my server, probably pp.gif I wrote a Web-based graphical wrapper for `df` for my server that currently outputs:

So that's what I'm using my space for, although I've only allocated 1TB of it - the rest is sitting in LVM waiting to be used when I need it (and because they're all ReiserFS partitions I can expand them without even unmounting them msn_happy.gif).
