First of all --- you can't, so you'll have to verify it somewhere other than at work.

Second of all --- that's not Hex Editing. msn_happy.gif

Why not log in with your work email then? Or use a proxy?

You can't.
As it sais you appear to be offline. The other contacts msn receives your status as offline so it can't see the diffrence between appearing offline and really being offline.

It's hex editing. Google "Hex editing" for a clearer understanding perhaps.

QUOTE(Ahmad @ Jun 29 2005, 09:18 PM)
Ok, let's say you're using version 6.2.0205 and Microsoft won't let you sign in.

Download a Hex Editor and open msnmsgr.exe in the Hex Editor.

Do a search for "6.2.0205" and change it to "6.2.0208" (or to the number of the latest version).

Save and run Messenger, you should be able to sign in now.

Hello Ahmad, I have tried this and it does not work.

In the past couple days my MSN has been asking me to update to Messenger Live, and I don't want to. Why? cause I'm the type of person who likes their MSN on 24/7, so for that reason I noticed Windows Live takes 55MB+ of memory (ressource HOG!). I'm currently using MSN Messenger 7.5.0324 which takes 15MB+ of memory.

Now I've tried editing the version number with a Hex Editor but MSN would still ask to update. Do I have the latest build of 7.5? If so why does it still ask me? I know they force updates because of security updates but like CookieRevised said
QUOTE
People who use MSN Messenger 6 are NOT forced to update to MSN Messenger 7. Both are two seperate version paths and both have their latest version.
so shouldn't the same thing apply with version 7 and 8 since they are seperate version paths?

Thanks, I very much appreciate your tutorials msn_wink.gif

Hey there, I'm new! msn_nerd.gif

First some words of thankfulness to AHMAD, HABIBI, MY HERO!!! msn_happy.gif

It's just the small things you need to know to accomplish a task. I CAN NOW USE Messenger 6.2.0208 ON WIN2K AGAIN! Thanks a ton!
You just need to change the version number to something stupid like 7.0.9999 and it works msn_grin.gif

Well, I want everything BUT upgrade IE to version 6! 5.5 SP2 runs fine and I want it that way! I do not need the latest bells & whistles ... (but MS thinks I do need them)

Whatever...the old thread needs an UPDATE!!!
Things said are correct for 2005, but now MS has closed doors officially for 6.2!! Without hacking the exe, there is no way into MSN for 6.2 clients anymore!

Ahmad: could you tell me how to modify the 7.0 installer so that MSN 7 installs on Windows 2000 SP4 with IE 5.5SP2? I do not believe the hype that IE6 is absolutely needed. Should work fine w/5.5.

Any way to replace original emoticons with new emoticons?

I want to replace the actual MSN emoticons with Mac styled emoticons.

Also, if I did replace them, would other people see the Mac styled emoticons or would they see the originals?

I'm even wondering if I can change the text string needed to use an emoticon; for example:

Replace ( A ) ( msn_angel.gif ) with like [a] and then use ( A ) for something else.

Short answer: No, impossible

Even if you manage to add a new status to the drop down menu, you wouldn't be able to do anything with it. Mesenger (and its protocol) only reconizes a few statusses. Goes for the Messenger clients which your contacts are using too. Even changing the name of an existing status will not work as your contacts will not be able to see the 'new' name either since a status is internally nothing more than a number. It isn't reconized by the name.
