Care to explain more clearly?
And 5 is a number, not a letter.

I just had this problem but numbers didn't show up e.g i press noreply.gif and " came up? But i'll try to help you, theres a symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the screen sayin 'EN' right click on it click on settings now change the default input language to your language. Thats what i done and i worked for me. Good luck.

He used the third-person for "my laptop", indicating that he wasn't currently using his laptop... Plenty of us have more than one PC these days..

o.O That's pretty crazy... Rebooting will normally fix it, too.. At least rebooting resets the numlock status on mine =/

It's a laptop keyboard. If you've never used one you won't understand. I've attached a (slightly blurred - my camera is awful in low-light conditions without the flash..) photo of my laptop's "number pad". The blue numbers/symbols are what happens if you either hold down the Fn key or have Num Lk enabled. Note how the U key has a 4 on it and the I key has a 5 msn_happy.gif

american keyboards are layed out slightly different as well.

the noreply.gif sign is actually where the ! or the " i forgot which one msn_thinking.gif and the one it replaces is where the noreply.gif is.

UK keyboard:
Shift + 2 = "
Shift + ' = noreply.gif
Shift + 3 = £
Shift + ` [key left of 1] = ¬
Return key is a different shape, allowing for the existence of a new key above the right-hand shift key: #
Shift + # = ~

USA keyboard:
Shift + 2 = noreply.gif
Shift + ' = "
Shift + 3 = #
Shift + ` [key left of 1] = ~
Return key is a different shape to UK, so the #/~ key doesn't exist
As a result Americans can't type £ or ¬ easily.

They're the differences that I know of... There could be others.
Conclusion: No, they're totally not different msn_wink.gif

Yeah, that can get quite annoying. In university they have some UK and some US keyboards, so when programming i get crap like = @this@ when I want to quote something. Arh, I hate those keyboards. I have plenty to say about those keyboards actually. Have you ever had those soft keys? Where you push the key down and it takes about half a second to come back up? That's horrible. It feels like someone has dropped some sticky food under there.

mathmaticions and people who deal with alot of logic.

¬ means nogation, in its most basic sense, changes the truth value of a statement to its opposite. It is an operation needed chiefly in logic, mathematics, and grammar.
