Some who execute the file are not lame.
I was in the middle of a convo with someone, who I often exchange URLs with.
I received a message saying "LOL checkout this site http://something/something/handcuffs.pif"
I clicked, as it was from someone I knew, and not an attatchment (also not seeing it was a PIF).

Firefox immediately closed, despite the fact I had several Tabs open. When I saw the URL contained a PIF I yanked the power cord but it must be too late..

The only problem I've noticed with my computer is that Windows Restore no longer works msn_sad.gif (Mcafee, AVG, Adware, Spybot S&D, and Norton found no problems).

However, I found no info re the handcuffs.pif URL listed on Norton, or anywhere else on the net besides this forum. So it more than likely isn't in any of my definition lists yet....

If your having problems guys, I made a quick removal tool for the "M" variant of this (she can fit her ass in a teacup, titan2, etc) at the following thread:

http://forum.mess.be/index.php?showtopic=5532

Worked on 2/2 people I have sent it to now, so it is looking good!

Hello there, first post.
I belive there is a new variation of the Bropia worm.

It has a new strategy this time. It spreads thru this site, http://msnupdate.qn.com/, that looks a LOT alike http://messenger.msn.com.

It spreads in the same fashion as the old worms. My contact said:
"*** URGENT *** Download the latest patch from http://msnupdate.qn.com/ to prevent getting infected by W32.Bropia.C."
and went immediatly offline.

The file, named update.exe, 45kb of size, and it has the icon of Windows Messenger to try to deceive the users to run it beliving it will actually update.

I have not run it but my anti-virus (Avast, updated today) doesn't detect it as a virus.

Obviously do not open the file inside the update website to prevent being infected.

Another new MSN Virus the W32.Kelvir.D

It sends the message: haha look at us http://[domain removed]/youandme.pif

More information Here

W32.Serflog.B

W32.Serflog.B is a worm that spreads through file-sharing networks and MSN Messenger. The worm also lowers security settings.

The worm arrives via an MSN Messenger window with a blank message

Get her to boot into safe mode then run a full virus scan. "Safe mode with networking" and then using http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ if you must.

Viruses (generally) don't start in safe mode so it's pretty nice for getting rid of them.

(Oh yeah, just press F8 a lot as soon as you turn the comp on and eventually you'll get a menu up with safe mode options on it. It used to be "press F8 immediately after seeing 'Starting Windows 98'", but that message is no longer displayed so it's just "Hit F8 a lot just before the windows xp logo is displayed" :/)
