i would suggest you delete your messenger cache or remove some display pictures.

i would tell you how but i dont have time to look up all the file paths, so i will edit later unless someone does it first

you'll find your messenger cache here - C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Temp\MessengerCache - to warn you i dont know what you will have to redo after removing it, i have never delted mine, so its at your own risk if you decide to.

to delete some display pictures, just open up the window to change your display picture , select the picture you want and press the button that says remove.

also, uncheck this option in Messengers settings if it is checked - Tools > Options > Sign In > Use the same display picture and personal message wherever i sign in

I suggest you try the last one first, if that fails, try the second one, and if after all that it still happens, then its up to you to delete the cache and see if that helps or wait for any other solutions.

Tools > Options > Messages

are Show Emoticons and/or Show Custom Emoticons checked.

sometimes these have a tendancy to uncheck themselves.

RebelSean, he's right, it's happening to me too.

when you try to remove it in Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs

when you click Change/Uninstall, you get the Vista popup asking you Allow, and when you click it it disapears and then nothing happens, and it doesnt go away.

and i cant find any other way to uninstall it... Grr

i'll try it in safemode when i can be bothered.

it sounds as if someone got your email address, either a virus on someone on your contact list's system, or it was entered online by you or even a friend.

the only way to prevent it would be a new account with a new address i'm afraid

the highest ranking is a Space, but seeing as a space before any text will be removed, the next highest ranking should be an Exclamation Mark

This week we see the record of The Worlds Fastest SuperComputer, broken by IBMs Roadrunner

Roadrunner reached a peak of 1.026 Petaflops this week, that is over one thousand trillion calculations per second

Apparently Roadrunner can perform a complex physics calculation, that would have took 1998s Fastest SuperComputer 20 years to complete, in 1 Week!

so basically you want a way to remove the border round the contact list display pictures, while keeping Contacts in the multiline (Name/Status on top line, Personal Message on bottom line) format?

i'm sure if its not possible (never use mess patch myself) then i wouldent think it would be too hard for Rolando...

i dont understand.... the Event Viewer only shows things everybody can see anyway, its just a way of seeing what you missed etc, they cant see if you're reading a message, but obviously they can see when you change your status, they can see that anyway if they watch your name...

if you dont want people to know you are there, just set your status to Away (prevents Idle) and just tell the people who you do want to talk to its to prevent others talking to you, two birds with one stone, they feel special, and others dont talk to you pp.gif

Yes, this is my computer, and I'm the only user, yet I get three folders, Owner, All users and Administrator. The Administrator folder does't have the same folders that the Owner one has.... (if that makes any sense).

And yes, I exited the messenger completely...

I already tried to disabled the McFee virus protection, it doesn't make any differance, I unistalled the messenger, run a cleaner, installed it again, and it won't make a differance! msn_sad.gif

Log on using the Administrator Account before trying to delete the "Owners" folder, still while in the Administrator account. (your "Owner" Account probably does not have Administrator privelages, therfore not allowing you to delete system folders)

Alt-255 does not work it shows blank on my side and my email on the other persons side.

so to recap

Messenger Discovery or StuffPlug or A Patch do not work

Right Alt-0160 does not work (it shows blank for me and my email on the person I'm talking too)

Right Alt-0170 does not work (it shows a little a)

Right Alt-255 does not work (it shows blank for me and my email on the person I'm talking too)

well then i guess Microsoft have prevented you having a Blank Nickname. so give up.
