Hey, just a heads up here.

I've written a small detours app which allows you to run the MSN Live installer on 64-bit Windows XP Pro.

Download (/w source code): http://users.tpg.com.au/vzorin/x64_Messeng...e_Installer.zip

Yes it contains binaries, but the source code is attached if you wish to compile it yourself. So no "virus" posts please.

README:
CODE
x64 Detours Hack for Windows Live Messenger Installer
Author: x64_live@irregularexpressions.org
Date: 18/02/09

MD5 05F20EAFA636C00D349AA7304CF19798  x64_detour.dll
MD5 93D69BE6FD8E62B7EF7F8AAA46DDF70E  x64_installer.exe

This installer will allow you to install Windows Live Messenger, among other Windows Live products on
Windows XP x64.

It does this by using Microsoft Detours (http://research.microsoft.com/sn/detours) to rewrite
the 'GetNativeSystemInfo' API call to lie about your processor architecture (x64->x86) to the installer.

Source to the launcher & dll is included.

INSTRUCTIONS
------------
1. Download 'wlsetup-custom.exe' from (http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger)

2. Extract this archive (x64_installer.exe, x64_detour.dll) to the same folder as 'wlsetup-custom.exe'.

3. Run 'x64_installer.exe' and you should be able to install Messenger Live as normal.

OK, enjoy and spread the love around msn_happy.gif

Thanks for this, very useful utility.

Should be noted that it'll bomb out with a strange error message if you don't install the x86 version of the Visual Studio 2008 Runtimes, though.

Thanks for the warning. For anybody getting such errors download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) (1.7mb)
