On my old computer I had some really cool emoticons. It was running w2k and Messenger 7.0 (build 7.0.0820)
Now I have a new computer running WinXP and Live Messenger 2008 (build 8.5.1302.1018) and I would like to have my emoticons back.... On the old computer I can only find .dat files in the folder custom emoticons... The new messenger uses .jpg and .gif files as far as I can see... Could somebody please help me by telling me how to convert them? |

The new messenger stores emoticons as .id2 and .dt2 files. You can just copy the .dat files from your old computer, rename them changing the extention to .gif and then add them into messenger as you normally would on your new computer. There are probably mass importers around, but I'm not an expert on advising what to use (e.g. whether they work or are safe to use).
