Hey all,
Since installing XP-SP3 a short time ago, I have noted one strange and recurring problem. My MSN no longer distinguishes idle from away after patching it to do so.
MSN 8.5.1302.1018
I uninstalled and reinstalled then re-patched. It distinguished idle from away until the next reboot when it stopped doing it again. This is quite odd for me as I really like that feature. Just thought I'd post and see if anyone else had experienced anything similar?

Playing some more with it...
Complete uninstall + reinstall + patch. When Messenger gets started up, the main .exe calls dpinst.exe which summons the installation .msi. The patched msgslang.8.5.1302.1018.dll gets overwritten with the one from the .msi. If the .msi is moved or renamed, Windows installer pops up and asks for its location. If you click cancel, then WI undoes whatever it was doing and starts up the properly patched WLM. Pretty darned annoying to have to deal with Windows Installer every time you start WLM though. So I pulled out the msgslang.8.5.1302.1018.dll file into a separate directory. Then I let dpinst.exe do its thing and replaced the factory msgslang.8.5.1302.1018.dll file with the patched one afterwards. Had to go through the same process the next time as well. But the third time, WLM started up without problem or file-change and all seems to be well now.
Very strange behaviours....
