Just thought I'd say hey, it's been a while. Is anyone alive in here still, seems like its just getting over run by spam bots.
*Nat*
I'm here. I seem to be the only one. This place is dead and gone.
dizee
Im still here, didn't know you was still around here Nat haha msn_grin.gif

But yeah, unfortunately, this place has passed on msn_cry.gif
*Nat*
I have no life msn_tongue.gif
peter05
I'm interested to know what went wrong. Windows Live Messenger is still quite popular.
*Nat*
No website update. No mess patch. People gave up.
peter05
Was it the site that gave up or the people or just something in the middle? The problem is if a site gives up usually its audience does to.
*Nat*
I have no idea. I think it was a case of people dissapearing off the planet (e.g. Rolando, Dwergs etc) and then people giving up waiting. To be honnest I don't blame them. I've never given up msn_grin.gif but I've decided the update plus mess patch won't happen or at least any time soon. No one has told me that but it is my opinion and I'm sure most other people feel the same hence giving up and not coming back.

Ah well you never know having this little conversation going might spark things back up again. Then again we've had little conversations in the past and then it has died again. Oh well!

I'm not hugely convinced people use messenger as much these days. It's all about social networking websites now like Facebook! I was off messenger for a while as no one came online any more and even now I only tend to be on it for a short amount of time as I have more important things to do.

I am new here.. i am a MSN messenger fan.. i use it on daily basic

It seems you would be correct, even with these new messenger launches such as the upcoming Wave 4. No one seems interested. I mean when I was active I was some 16 year old who loved MSN, now I seem to have grown up and find better things to do with my time. I feel most users here have done the same and the next generation of teens are to distracted by things like facebook and myspace to worry about MSN.

It seems that the community is dead, the product is dying and the need for such a community is out the window.

Its a shame really, I have so many glorious memories here from my nerdy computer days. It doesn't seem like there are any intentiorns to close the forums however, which is always a good thing, I still like to come in and check on all my old Mess.Be friends from time to time.

Glad to see a few of you are still kicking around, Natalie. msn_wink.gif lol ... I'm sure I'll be back in about 6 month to a year to say hello again.

I miss you guys. msn_sad.gifmsn_brokenheart.gif
*Nat*
There's an upcoming wave 4? I didn't know anything about that.

I've never got into things like Facebook and stuff. I don't see the need to tell everyone what you are doing at that moment or what are you thinking. It's like who cares that you are hungry? The only thing I like about it is that I've got in touch with my old school friends who I hadn't seen since I was like 10 and I'm interested to see what they have been up to since I last spoke to them.
level42
Yup, see here:

*Nat*
I don't like the contact list. I guess the highlights it's like the What's new thing. I haven't got the whats new showing. The all/available/more/add etc seems rather large too. I see they've now added tabbed chats?

I guess though it's like when version 14 came out I didn't like it. I've now got used to it and like it now.
level42
Yea, I really don't like this new build 15 either, its bloated and tacky and contains tons of info I don't care about.
anonymousjon
im still about too, I tried contacting dwergs a couple of months ago to ask what the deal was but never really got a reply. dwergs has been hanging out at his new site http://www.reface.me a facebook layouts, hacks, profile pictures, apps and general facebook related stuff site

as for Wave 4 its being built to be more like a social hub bringing all your social networks like twitter and facebook directly into messenger, this even includes windows live messenger to facebook chat features.

The leaked version featured above is an old milestone 2 build they are currently on M3 with M4 coming fairly soon. A lot has changed between 2 and 3 including a lot of improvements to the layout msn_happy.gif
peter05
I think Windows Live Messenger is still quite popular but people don't want to do anything to it. I have lots of regular contacts online, but people just use it to talk, they don't really mess around with it.

Is it just me or has there been little information than usual for the upcoming version of Windows Live Messenger?
Abhimanyu
Hey everyone! msn_happy.gif

I like the tabbed convos. But its like windows is messing with messenger and not letting us to anything. Soon they'll add plugins and Plus would die out soon too. Hope this forum gets a life. msn_happy.gif

Edit: Haha! one more post to go for 900! msn_wink.gif

Not been here in years.

I still think this community can make a return.. before it used to be about Windows live messenger, Customization & Plus.. Maybe if we expand the site to say; Windows live Messenger, AIM, Trillian, Digsby, Adium, iPhone/ Android Messenger...etc

We could get an assorted type of community? What say Ye? The site can be changed to Mess with Messenger so it targets all messenger clients.

I feel we can bring back the community by doing this, so again.. I say; What say Ye?
dwergs
Wow, Nathalie, you're die hard! That's great! And Jase, I love your immortal trust!

For the others, it's really interesting to still see some activity here. Seriously.

To be entirely honest, I lost my passion for Messenger and my devotion to Microsoft products last year due to a combination of personal and professional circumstances. And as some of you know, for a while now I've been exploring Facebook, which has clearly outgrown Windows Live Messenger in popularity. Are you guys on Facebook? Do you use it more intensely than Messenger? I know I do. And I agree with peter05 in a way, believing that for many 1st & 2nd generation "Messers" their employment of Messenger has reverted to its core functionality.

Anyway, I'm interested in your thoughts on this. And if anyone agrees with Jase.

By the way, I just purged thousands and thousands of user accounts with less than 1 post, simply because 99% of them were spam. Probably deleted some innocent folks too ─my apologies to those affected─ but there was no better solution to get rid of the crap. I believe the forum's now as clean as it can be (feel free to contradict if otherwise).

The challenge that comes now is to look forward to the technology and forms of communication that will be popular in a year or two.

Everything that is current, has been mastered and commercialized to a point of no customization.

If I had said ten years ago that MSN Messsenger would be dead and these 'dating' and alumni sites would be taking over, I would have been laughed at.

Well not to make myself look like a prophet, because I didn't say it.

MSN Messenger was killed by Bebo and MySpace,

MySpace and Bebo are being killed by Facebook.

Who's the Facebook killer?

Likewise, I lost my passion for Windows Live Messenger when I started using Adium, I never looked back.. If my contacts wanted to do Audio/ Video (Which is the only thing Adium lacks) I would find them on Skype.

That does not mean that Mess.be has to go on a major Hiatus..Now we are still talking about Messenger clients in general.. The main ones today are WLM, Skype AIM, Yahoo, ICQ *shrugs at the last client* but those are just the main ones! Think about the alternatives: Pidgin, iChat, Miranda, Adium, Trillian, Now.. Think about the Jabber clients out there.. Yep.. WAY TO MANY! Now what if Mess.be was about all messenger clients, and people seeking help with that current client? Wouldn't there be more discussions about various clients? Wouldn't the community open up More and more? Not to mention there would be many many talented staff, members & VIP's who would be able to answer any questions that people are having.

MSN/Windows Live Messenger is not dead.. The protocol is still 100% it's just the users are no longer interested in a bloated crappy client and have moved to better, simpler alternatives.. which also answers your next sentence; Bebo is Still alive & So is myspace (HAHAHAH Myspace) but the % of devoted users has dropped a large amount, Facebook has gained because it has listened to It's users, where as myspace has totally ripped off Facebook and has not come close to doing anything innovative themselves.

Who is the next Facebook Killer? you say? Diaspora msn_wink.gif
*Nat*
msn_surprised.gif Dwergs, good to see you msn_grin.gif . Pssst my name doesn't have an h in it msn_wink.gif . I totally agree with you Jase although the only other messenger client I've used is Yahoo but no one else had it so I didn't tend to bother with it. I no longer have it installed either. I have AIM but no account. It just came pre-installed on this laptop.

Facebook is good for sending the odd message to friends who you don't have messenger and I like noseying at people's photo's and just generally learning what they are up to these days. To actually have a conversation with someone though I prefer to use messenger. I've used the facebook IM a couple of times but I don't really like it.

I too just use WLM for its core functionality these days.

Good that you've deleted a ton of accounts Dwergs, there's no end of spam accounts but all I can do is suspend them. Some spam accounts however have made numerous posts.

I still have not hit 1000 posts yet... msn_tongue.gif

almost there!
dizee
Wow there are some people still here, and even something from the main man himself!

I do agree with what some of you are saying, make this a general messenger site, it should bring back some more popularity. Obviously it wont make it like the golden days again, but it will definitely make things more lively.

So hows everyone doing these days anyway?

How much do you want to bet that if Mess.be throw a huge promo image saying "We are back! & we bought our other messy Friends along for the ride" - Okay something along those lines will get the attention of almost every IM user in the world!

It's time to stop talking and really do something to bring this all back. Dizee, I am jolly good, thanks for asking. Just hanging around on Neowin & twitter these days. How are you?

Ahh, its great to see so many familiar faces floating around here msn_happy.gif

I just updated my signature for the first time in years, lol. Just felt like it needed a change msn_wink.gif
dizee
Well, what can we do to change all this, we need less talk more ACTION! msn_happy.gif haha

But seriously, at this state, what can we actually do?
s1k0
Wow, it's been awhile :\. You should expand to Apple products msn_up.gif.
*Nat*
That's a little contradictory ha ha. Apple seems to be the way to go at the moment though. It appears to be quiet in the Microsoft world. Either that or I'm in the dark about any goings on.

I am still around msn_happy.gif
Jase
any updates about this?
*Nat*
Nothing!
Lukeyy19
Wow, this place is empty...

Jesus. I don't think I've been to these forums since 2006. I miss the site dearly. I used to worship it 6ish years ago. I think this site helped spawn my love for orange. Even though I didn't post much, I read these forums dearly. I love you guys.

Hello!
Abhimanyu
Omg! People talking here! msn_happy.gif
Hello Everyone! msn_happy.gif
*Nat*
No not really msn_tongue.gif
Jase
Well since no one from staff bothered to do anything.. I have teamed up with a forum called Geeksmack, there we discuss everything I suggested doing to mess.be but the staff didn't act.. It's been years now and it's time to act so everyone who used to love having conversations and such come to geeksmack and keep the instant messenger communication flowing there:

http://www.geeksmack.net
*Nat*
I would have done something if I had the power but I don't. Everyone else has dissapeared off the planet.
Jase
as in remove my link? see thing is i'm not spamming I am just trying to get this dead site moving somewhere else call it what you want I call it making a stand msn_tongue.gif
*Nat*
No no no! I actually signed up to that site msn_tongue.gif Haven't looked properly yet though.

I meant do your suggestions you posted ages ago. The people who have control of the site (*cough* dwergs etc) have dissapeared off the planet.

I'm not that mean msn_tongue.gif
Jase
Ahhhhh I see! okay msn_grin.gif yeah Geeksmack is a great community and we are working on making it more friendly for the Messenger Community msn_happy.gif

I am not sure what the future holds for mess - since Dwergs himself has openly admitted his passion and drive for mess has been lost as life takes over.

I guess that and the fact that Messenger seems not to be so popular anymore with the likes of facebook etc taking over the social scene.

Geeksmack looks interesting though.................
RebelSean
It has been ages since I've been to this forum. Nice to see some are still lurking! Hope everyone's doing well. I have a few of you on Facebook, but if anyone wants to keep in touch you can add me: http://www.facebook.com/rebelsean

I'm hardly ever on Messenger anymore, as Dwergs has said I to have moved on to Facebook and use it a lot more than I do Messenger.
Shoop
I just signed in to say that our little tightly knit community on these forums really felt like a family of sorts to me. I had lost interest in Messenger long ago, but stayed to keep chatting with you guys. Thanks for the good times msn_happy.gif
